世界泥沙研究学会秘书长王兆印介绍学会情况

国际泥沙信息网10月19日讯  世界泥沙研究学会于今日成立，泥沙学会秘书长王兆印教授对学会的筹备情况、章程及发展会员等情况作了介绍。

Ladies and gentlemen:

I am pleased and honored on be half of WASER report you the preparation and progress in the organization of the world association for sedimentation and erosion research. The new association, with abbreviation of its name as WASER, will be an international association and provide a new forum and a home for all of you the sedimentation and erosion researchers and engineers. The preparation of the WASER has been for 6 years.

In 1998 the 4th advisory council of International Research and Training Center on Erosion and Sedimentation put forward a proposal for the new association. The proposal was discussed during the 7th International Symposium on River Sedimentation in Hong Kong in 1998 and during the 28th IAHR Congress in Graz in 1999. IRTCES submitted a feasibility report for WASWER to the Ministry of Water Resources of China in 2000. Minster Wang Shucheng signed and expressed his support fro the new association. In 2003, the ministry of water resources submitted a report to the state government and the vice premier Hui Liang Yu and Vie Premier Tang Jiaxuan signed  on behalf of the central government.

From 2002 IRTCES has contacted many eminent scientists and engineers in the field of erosion and sedimentation studies. About 220 scientists have replied in response to the proposal and expressed their support for the new association and willingness to be members of the association . During the process many scientists and engineers from Europe, Anmerica, Asia and pacific regions and Africa have been supporting the WASER not only in advocating but also in recommendation of members and amending the statutes. UNESCO has supported IRTCES in the effort of the preparation of WASER as well.
Because the WASER is a new association IRTCES nominated and invited 19 scientists to compose the first council and drafted the statutes. IRTCES will serve as the secretariat of WASER, the International Symposium on River Sedimentation will become the symposia of the association and the International Journal of Sediment Research will become the journal of the new association. WASER will be an independent non-governmental, non-political, non-profit organization, at all times free of racial, gender or national, prejudice. The objective of WASER is to promote the study and development of the science of erosion and sedimentation and to foster the application and dissemination of the knowledge.

The mission of WASER is to further understanding and its application in the field of erosion and sedimentation, through international contacts among scientists, engineers, organizations, institutions and governments.

All of the scientists and engineers interested in the sedimentation and erosion management and studies are welcome to become a member of the association. You have received the application form yesterday, please fill the form and submit it to Dr. Cheng or other members of the LOC of the symposium.
