Dato' Seri Prof. Dr. Hj.
Ibrahim Abu Shah
at the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement
between
Universiti Teknologi Mara
and
IRTCES
(24 March, 2008)
A very warm morning,
早安.
I bid to all of our honourable host.
Prof. Dr. Hu Chunhong, Secretary
General and Deputy Director of IRTCES,
Prof. Dr. Wang Yangui, Division Chief
of Department of Research and Training, IRTCES,
Dr. Jayakumar Ramasamy, Programme
Specialist for Science, Technology and Environment UNESCO Office
Beijing
Ladies and Gentalmen.
Before I begin this speech I would like
to convey the Vice Chancellor's heartfelt wishes. He sends his
apologies for not being able to attend this signing. His schedule
doesn't permit his visit because of the latest development in
Malaysia and he certainly wishes that this collaboration will bear
fruits in the near future. He is enthusiastic about collaborating
with your esteemed institution.
He expresses his gratitude to Prof. Chunhong Hu for agreeing
to this signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement between
IRTCES and UiTM and wishes to invite Prof. Hu to UiTM should his
schedule allow it.
UiTM's effort in establishing relations
marks yet another chapter in our record of international
partnership. We are especially proud to form this relation, as it is
in concert with our effort to further establish our reputation in
the international arena. Parallel to this, is also the fact that
this partnership is in line with the objectives of the Ministry of
Higher Education of Malaysia to expand Malaysian universities'
capabilities in research to work with reputable international
institutions. This is seen as synergistic partnership in advancing
knowledge for the purpose of enriching the capabilities of
universities to deal with local issues by introducing
internationally merged solutions.
Ladies and gentlemen
This relation is also aptly arranged at
this time as UITM has designated the year 2008 as the year of
embracing internationalization. This is a yearly practice of
focusing the university's efforts towards a target achievement that
would generate the university's capabilities to greater heights.
Continuous improvement is also part and parcel of the university's
agenda and it is hoped that through such collaboration both our
targets would be realized.
The other purposes of exchanging
technology, building people-to-people relations between the members
of the universities and the communities, enriching knowledge
creation and breaking new grounds in research are crucial and
significant elements that would strengthen the university's
portfolio. I hope that our working together reflects a shared
aspiration in internationalising our education system, as we too,
believe that in order to gain international recognition, we must
facilitate the global exchange of ideas and intellect, experts and
expertise.
In this regard, we are happy to share
our experience in carrying out the university's mission, the joys,
the challenges and the heartaches that come with it. After all, it
is only through giving and sharing that we develop and expand our
horizons, our capabilities and our strengths. Perhaps, in the near
future, we can enhance our bilateral relationship further and work
towards other forms of programmes and activities that are ongoing
and are of mutual benefit to both parties concerned. It is my hope
that both UiTM and IRTCES will cherish and nurture the friendship we
have to perfection.
With this, I would like to wish all the
best to our newly formed
relationship.
Thank you.
谢谢你。
