• Ten research and consulting programs sponsored by UNESCO were conducted. Eighteen persons as UN experts were recommended by IRTCES and dispatched to eight countries to serve as consultants and trainers.
  • UNDP project entitled "Regional Training Program on Erosion and Sedimentation for Asia' (1989 - 1993) was managed by IRTCES. The project involved 12 member countries and implemented ten activities.
  • A sub-program on watershed management under the FAO Regional Program "Farmer Centered Agricultural Resources Management" (FARM) (eight member countries) and its sister program "Participatory Watershed Management Training in Asia" (PWMTA) (twelve member countries) have been active since 1994.
  • Ten international and regional training courses were organized for four hundred trainees from 30 countries.
  • Twenty one international symposia, seminars and workshops were organized or co-sponsored, with over three thousand participants. IRTCES, being authorized by UNESCO, serves as the permanent secretariat for the organization of the International Symposium on River Sedimentation (ISRS). It is a triennial conference series. The previous six were held in China, U.S.A., Germany and India.
  • The "International Journal of Sediment Research' has published thirty one issues in thirteen volumes, covering a total of 257 papers till the end of 1998. The Journal is distributed to 32 countries and regions, and 4 international organizations.
  • IRTCES publishes circulars and monographs, lecture notes, proceedings of conferences, etc., and has established information exchange with 84 institutions and universities of 48 countries.
