Closing Ceremony
Speech by representative of the participants
Dr Tom O¡¯Donoghue (Aberdeen University, Scotland)
¡¡
It is
my pleasure, on behalf of the participants, to express
sincere thanks to the organizers of the 2nd International
Conference on Estuaries and Coasts.
We have had a very fruitful and enjoyable three-or-so days
in Guangzhou, during which time we listened to outstanding
plenary presentations by eminent colleagues and to high
standard presentations covering a wide range of topics
related to estuaries and coasts. We had an excellent trip
yesterday, during which we got a good sense of the
complexity of the Pearl River estuary. I lost count of the
number of bridges we crossed! As Professor de Vriend
remarked to me on the bus ¨C roads here are just short links
between the bridges!
I¡¯m sure I speak for all of the overseas participants at the
conference when I say how impressed we have been by the
welcome, warmth and hospitality shown to us by our hosts
here in China. It really has been special and will be
remembered for some time to come.
All of this was only possible through the very hard work of
the conference organizers at IRTCES and the Pearl River
Water Resources Commission, so, once again, sincere thanks
and many congratulations for what has been a wonderful
conference.
Thank you. ¡¡ |
