RESEARCH ON STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK FOR TREATMENT OF PEARL RIVER ESTUARY

Abstract: In recent years, on the background of the natural evolution, the dramatic human activities have made the significant changes on the Pearl River Delta and the hydrologic characteristics of its estuary. It has led to the abnormal blocking to a higher level of the water level at the central part of the Pearl River, threatening the economic prosperity and the sustainable development of the Pearl River Delta. This essay, based on the current situation and the new problems of the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), particularly the severe situation on the flood control and the stagnant water drainage, in view of the thought of “Be human-based and respect the nature”, combining with the demand in social and economic development, proposed the “Point-Line-Section” treatment strategy of the PRE and the strategic framework of “Control Key Parts, Take Both Lines As Trunk, Assist With Side Branches and Support With Both Wings”.
