INTRODUCTION TO PEARL RIVER ESTUARY REGULATION

Abstract: This paper summarizes the Pearl River estuary regulation. General hydrological and sediment characters of the Pearl River estuary are introduced. The estuarine regulation planning of different periods since 1950s is described in details. The comprehensive regulation planning is still not coming out because the planning carried out is only for individual estuary outlet. Based on historical experiences, current situations and future development, potential problems on the Pearl River estuary regulation have been analysed. To solve these problems, some new ideas and measures are proposed in order to achieve the healthy and continual utilization of the Pearl River estuary.
