Abstract

Sediment movement is quite active along the muddy coast of the northwestern Bohai Bay, China. A power plant was planned to be built on such coastal area. According to the hydrodynamic and morphodynamic conditions of the coastal area, the year-averaged suspension concentration can reach 1.3kg/m3. The key technological problems of water intake project of the plant were water quality and sedimentation in water intake system. Depended on physical model test, sediment concentration and deposit in the system were simulated. The results suggested that settling basins could effectively improve the water quality. Had the settling basin layout properly been planed, the intake water quality and the sedimentation in the system would meet requirement.
