Abstract

Current dynamics and sediment conditions are always one of the crucial problems in harbor layout. According to the analysis on current velocity, sediment content in past surveys and the results of numerical modeling for the general layout of the Yangshan Harbor, it is suggested that the single-channel option should be optimized in the plan, not only simplifying the complicated current structure, but also keeping the current dynamic condition and water depth in the deep trough when a suitable width of the west gate, 3.5 km, is selected. Further more, the water depth after the single-channel option is estimated according to the riverbed equilibrium formula.
