Abstract

More than 200 design methods, formulae and recommendations developed so far by Russian and foreign scientists for bedload discharge computations in rivers provide quite contradictory results differing in tens and hundreds of times. The main reasons of unsatisfactory state of methods for bedload discharge and yield assessments in rivers are discussed in the present paper.

Verification of numerous existing design formulas made at the State Hydrological Institute (SHI) based on the extensive data massives of the most reliable measurements in the field and laboratory conditions enabled to select and recommend several formulae for practical utilization, specifically for different categories of rivers: large and small, plane, mountain and piedmont rivers.
