Abstract

The 2D hydrodynamic flow model based on Saint-Venant system was used to simulate the influence of settlement and growth of aquatic vegetation on shallows. A number of scenarios of willow growth on point bars and central bar in the junction of the Suda and the Kolp’ rivers (Vologda Region, Northern Russia) were developed. They take into account both features of hydrological regime of joining rivers and the conditions of willow growth on temporary submerged bars. As a result of modelling the process of central bar development and its evolution to vegetated island were reconstructed.
