Abstract

This paper presents a 1-D model for simulating non-equilibrium transport of non-uniform sediment in alluvial rivers under unsteady flow. The set of water and sediment governing equations are solved in coupled way by using a finite difference explicit scheme. Particle size distribution of sediments is represented by the median diameter and the standard deviation instead of the usual modelling with multiple particles size classes. The model integrates formulations to update the bed material composition and the riverbed geometry. The model has been tested on laboratory flumes and field case. Considering the uncertainty of the input data and measurements, comparisons reveal that the model predictions are effective and reasonably accurate.
