Abstract

The Yellow River is well-known as one of the most heavily sediment-laden rivers in the world. In this paper based on the analysis of field data at the major gauging stations along the Yellow River, the sediment production from different districts is clearly identified. In view of soil erosion, the statistics of rate of erosion in the whole basin is clarified. Considering the deposition in the lower reaches, the essentiality and particularity of coarse sediment are also emphasized. Finally, the sediment budget of the Yellow River is illustrated depending on the sediment yield, sediment deposition and sediment transportation.
