Abstract
This paper is to
briefly present the most recent development of the research and design tools
(or methodologies) for conducting river engineering projects. Due to the fact
that the river engineering solutions of today’s problems have
become more and more complex, sound solutions of these problems demand thorough
consideration of multiple objectives under multiple constraints
as well as their effects to a large interconnected region of the entire
watershed or river basin and their short- and long-term impacts to human
society. To achieve the best possible solutions costeffectively,
the best tools have to be integrated for today’s applications to river engineering.
